Before we get into the full review — the Doona is specifically designed for the infant stage. It is a rear-facing infant car seat with a weight limit of 4 to 35 lbs or up to 35 inches tall. Once your baby outgrows it you will transition to a convertible car seat and a separate full-size stroller.
That transition is the one thing worth knowing upfront. The Doona is not your forever solution — it is your newborn through infant stage solution. And in our experience it is the best possible solution for that stage by a significant margin.
The Honest Review — What Makes It Worth $600

Here is the scenario that happens constantly with a newborn. You are at a doctor’s appointment, running errands, at a restaurant, anywhere. Your baby finally falls asleep in the car seat after what felt like an eternity of fussing. You arrive. You need to get inside.
With a traditional infant car seat plus stroller frame setup you have two options — click the car seat onto the stroller frame and hope the movement doesn’t wake them, or carry the whole car seat by the handle and pray your arm holds out.

The travel factor

How long did we actually use it?
This is the part that surprised even us. My son rode in the Doona until he was two years old. We got an extraordinary amount of use out of it — far more than we expected when we bought it. The price per use when you factor in nearly two full years of daily use works out to genuinely excellent value. (Note: my baby is not large. We are rocking the 20% in height and weight – so while not abnormally small, if you are on the 80-90% growth chart, you will most likely not get a full 2 years out of it).
The One Real Downside — And It Is Real
The Doona does not last forever. It is an infant car seat and once your child outgrows it — either by weight or height — you are transitioning to a convertible car seat and a separate full-size stroller. That transition is coming no matter what.
This is not a hidden cost or a secret — it is just the honest reality of what the Doona is. It is the best possible infant stage solution. It is not a solution for every stage.
For us the transition came at two years old which meant we got exceptional longevity out of it. Some babies will outgrow it sooner depending on their size. If your baby is measuring large it is worth checking the height limit before purchasing — the Doona has a 32 inch height limit which is the limiting factor for most babies before weight becomes an issue.

What About Tall Parents?
This comes up constantly in Doona discussions and I want to address it honestly because we have real experience here.
My husband is 5’11 and he never once complained about the handlebar height being uncomfortable or difficult to push. Not once. It was never a topic of conversation for us.
That said the handlebar sits at 39 inches which is on the lower end compared to some full-size strollers. Based on our experience I would say parents up to around 5’11 or 6’0 are likely completely fine. It is the over six foot crowd where you may genuinely feel the handlebar is lower than comfortable for extended pushing — particularly on longer walks or travel days.
If you or your partner are significantly over six feet tall it is worth trying one in a store before purchasing or checking return policies carefully. For everyone else — in our real world experience this is a non-issue.
Is the Doona Worth $600?
Yes. And here is why I can say that without hesitation.
We used it from birth until my son was two years old. It went with us to appointments, errands, restaurants, and on trips. It made every single outing with a newborn and infant easier in a way that is genuinely hard to quantify until you have experienced it. The moment you roll a sleeping baby through a parking lot for the first time without waking them up — you understand immediately why people pay $600 for this.
We are expecting our second baby in a couple of months and we are not even considering a different option. The Doona is what we are using again. That is the most honest endorsement I can give — we already know what else is out there, we already know how the story ends, and we are choosing the Doona again anyway.
