The Ultimate New Mom Must-Haves List (2026 Edition)

Becoming a new mom is equal parts magical and completely overwhelming. Between the unsolicited advice, the 3am feeds, and the seventeen open Amazon tabs — it’s a lot. This list exists to cut through the noise.

These are the products real moms actually use, love, and wish they’d bought sooner. Everything is available on Amazon with fast shipping, most are under $50, and all of them are genuinely worth it.

Feeding Essentials

Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump Every breastfeeding mom needs one of these. You attach it to the opposite side while nursing and it collects letdown milk passively — no effort required. Saves hundreds of ounces of milk you’d otherwise lose. Under $15 and one of the most recommended products in every new mom group online. Check price on Amazon

Ceres Chill Breastmilk Chiller This one doesn’t get nearly enough attention and it absolutely should. The Ceres Chill is a double walled insulated container that keeps freshly pumped breastmilk at a safe temperature for up to 20 hours without ice or refrigeration. If you’re pumping at work, traveling, running errands, or just away from home for the day this is genuinely life changing. No more scrambling to find a fridge or worrying about milk going bad.

My favorite part? During those middle of the night pump sessions I could pour my milk straight into the Ceres Chill right there in the bedroom and never had to make a single trip to the kitchen. At 3am that matters more than you can imagine.

A must have for any pumping mom on the go — and a total lifesaver and might arguably be my favorite (underrated) item on this list. Check price on Amazon

Manual Hand Pump — Emergency Essential Before you do anything else add a simple manual hand pump to your hospital bag and keep it there. Power outages, forgotten chargers, engorgement emergencies at 2am when your electric pump dies — a manual pump has saved countless breastfeeding journeys. It’s small, cheap, requires zero power, and you will be so glad you have it the one time you need it. I kept one by my bed and one in my car because you just never know. Check price on Amazon

Portable Wearable Breast Pump — For Work and On the Go First things first — check your insurance. Most insurance plans cover a robust breast pump at little or no cost and you can often get a high end pump like a Spectra or Medela completely free through your provider. Call your insurance before buying anything.

That said — a second portable wearable pump is a completely different product and worth every penny out of pocket. These sit discreetly inside your bra, make minimal noise, and let you pump hands free while driving, working, grocery shopping, or sitting in a meeting without anyone knowing (well, they might notice in person, but it’s less awkward). No tubes, no being strapped to a machine, no finding a private room. For working moms especially these are an absolute game changer.

Look for options in the $50-$100 range on Amazon — the MomCozy and Bellababy wearable pumps are both highly rated and come in well under what you’d pay for branded options (save the expensive ones for insurance). Prices seem to change constantly and good ones typically have decent sales! The Oteeida is highly rated and half off right now. Check price on Amazon — Oteeida This is another one that I personally used as well. Check price on Amazon — Paruu P10

Pro Tip on Pumps: Before you leave the hospital after delivery, have a lactation consultant help you determine your flange size. This will save heart-ache, frustration and discomfort when it comes time to start pumping, especially for the first time. The generic flange sizes most pumps come with do not fit the average person. Knowing your flange size starts you off right!

Baby Bottle Trial Pack — Because Every Baby Is Different Here is the truth nobody tells you about bottles — what works for one baby is completely wrong for another. Some babies are picky about nipple flow, some about the shape, some about the venting system. Buying a full set of one brand before baby arrives is a gamble you don’t need to take.

This Baby Bottle Trial Pack is the smart move. It includes 5 bottles from 5 different brands — Chicco, Dr. Talbot’s, MAM, Lansinoh and Babaloo — all anti-colic and breastfeeding friendly. Let your baby tell you which one they prefer, then stock up on that one. It’s a fraction of the cost of buying full sets of multiple brands and makes a genuinely perfect baby registry gift. Other popular ones to try are Avent and Dr. Browns.

Trust me on this one — find what works for YOUR baby first, then buy more of that. Check price on Amazon

Boppy Nursing Pillow Your arms will thank you. The Boppy supports baby during feeding so you’re not hunching over for every session. Also doubles as a lounger for tummy time as baby gets older. A true two-in-one that lasts years. Check price on Amazon

Sleep Must-Haves

Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine This is the one splurge on this list that is completely worth every penny. A sound machine, night light, and ok-to-wake clock all in one. You control it from your phone without going into the room and waking baby up. Parents swear by it from newborn through toddler years. Check price on Amazon

The Ollie Swaddle — Newborn Stage If there is one swaddle worth splurging on it’s the Ollie. Unlike velcro swaddles that stop working the moment baby learns to wiggle out, the Ollie’s custom fit adjusts as baby grows and stays secure all night. The moisture wicking fabric also means baby doesn’t overheat — a huge safety plus. This was my personal favorite in those early newborn weeks and I can’t recommend it enough. Check price on Amazon

SwaddleMe Original Swaddle — Budget Pick If you want a more budget friendly swaddle option the SwaddleMe is a solid choice. Velcro closure makes it foolproof at 3am and babies genuinely sleep better swaddled. Buy a 3-pack. Check price on Amazon

HALO Easy Transition SleepSack — Transition Stage This is the product that saves parents when baby starts breaking out of swaddles but isn’t ready for a regular sleep sack yet — usually around 3 to 6 months. The HALO Easy Transition SleepSack has a unique swaddle wrap that keeps arms snug but allows some movement, gently weaning baby off the full swaddle without the cold turkey shock that leads to sleepless nights for everyone.

It looks simple but the design is genius — you can leave both arms in, one arm out, or both arms out as baby gradually adjusts. That flexibility makes the transition so much smoother than just switching to a regular sleep sack overnight.

The 1.5 TOG weight is perfect for year round use in most homes and the wearable blanket design keeps baby safe and warm without loose blankets in the crib. Check price on Amazon

Kyte Baby Sleep Sack — Toddler Stage Once baby has transitioned out of the HALO Easy Transition SleepSack the Kyte Baby Sleep Sack takes over and honestly never really leaves. Made from incredibly soft bamboo rayon fabric that is temperature regulating, breathable and gentle on sensitive skin — parents who try Kyte Baby rarely go back to anything else.

Available in multiple TOG weights for different seasons and the most beautiful colors and prints you’ll find in any sleep sack. The two way zipper makes middle of the night diaper changes so much easier without fully waking baby up. Buy one in each size — you’ll use them for years and they wash and hold up beautifully.

Fair warning — once you feel the fabric you’ll want one for yourself too. Check price on Amazon

Owlet Dream Sock Baby Monitor This one is genuinely split down the middle and I want to be honest with you about that. I personally didn’t use the Owlet — but I have many friends who said they absolutely could not have survived the newborn stage without it. It tracks baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels and sends alerts to your phone if something seems off.

The main reason some parents skip it comes down to false alarms. It can occasionally alert you when everything is actually fine — which sounds annoying but is really the lesser of two evils. You’d always rather be woken up unnecessarily than miss something real. That said for parents who already tend toward anxiety the extra alerts can sometimes add stress rather than reduce it.

If you’re someone who knows you’ll feel better having the data — get it. If you know false alarms at 3am will send you into a spiral — it might not be the right fit for you. Either way it’s worth knowing about so you can make the right call for your family. Check price on Amazon

Diapering Essentials

Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail Every diaper pail claims to contain odors. The Ubbi actually does. Steel construction locks in smell unlike plastic pails that absorb odor over time. My favorite part (aside from concealing smells), is that it uses regular trash bags so you’re not locked into expensive refills forever. Worth the upgrade. Check price on Amazon

Keekaroo Peanut Changing Pad This is the one I have and genuinely love. The Keekaroo Peanut is made from a smooth seamless material that wipes clean in seconds — no cover to wash, no insert to stuff, no liner to replace. Baby has a blowout at 2am and you just wipe it down and you’re done. That alone is worth it.

The raised sides keep baby secure and the contoured shape is comfortable for baby and practical for you. It sits perfectly on top of a dresser and the non-slip bottom keeps it exactly where you put it.

Now — it is an investment and there are cheaper options out there that use the same wipe-clean material. If the Keekaroo is outside your budget just look for any changing pad made from a smooth seamless surface rather than fabric. That easy-clean material is the feature you actually need — the brand matters a lot less than getting that right.

But if you want the one I’d buy again without hesitation — it’s this one. Check price on Amazon

Triple Paste Diaper Rash Cream — The Only One Worth Buying I’ll be straight with you on this one — I tried them all. Desitin, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, Aquaphor, the store brands. And just like bottles, every baby is a little different so it’s possible your baby responds better to something else. But in my personal experience Triple Paste is the best diaper rash cream available by leaps and bounds — and it’s not even close.

It’s thick, it stays put, it works fast, and it actually clears rashes that other creams barely touched. A little goes a long way so the container lasts longer than you’d expect. If your baby ever gets a bad rash and nothing is working — reach for this one first. I wish someone had just told me that from the start instead of letting me waste money working my way through everything else on the shelf.

Worth every penny and a permanent fixture in our diaper caddy. Check price on Amazon

Bath Time

Fisher Price 4-in-1 Baby To Toddler Bath This tub grows with your baby from newborn through toddler. The newborn insert supports tiny babies safely, and as they grow you remove it and use the tub normally. One purchase that lasts years instead of buying multiple tubs. Check price on Amazon

Frida Baby NoseFrida Snot Sucker Sounds disgusting. Works better than anything else on the market. When your newborn has a stuffy nose and can’t breathe — and therefore can’t sleep — this is the only thing that actually works. Every parent ends up buying one eventually. Just buy it now. Baby Wearing

There is nothing that makes the newborn stage more survivable than a good baby wrap. Your hands are free, baby is happy, and you might actually get something done. Here are two options depending on your budget:

Ergobaby Embrace Newborn Carrier — Best High End Pick The Ergobaby Embrace is the gold standard of baby carriers for good reason. Incredibly soft, ergonomically designed to support baby’s hips correctly from birth, and easy enough to put on solo without a tutorial every time. The structured design means no complicated wrapping — just clip, adjust and go. Worth every penny if you plan to wear baby frequently and want something that feels secure and supportive for hours at a time. It will last forever – into a weight you don’t want to be carrying them anymore! Check price on Amazon

MomCozy Baby Wrap Carrier — Best Budget Pick If you want the baby wearing experience without the Ergobaby price tag the MomCozy wrap delivers. Stretchy, soft, and easy to learn — most moms have it figured out within a day. Great for around the house and quick errands. At a fraction of the Ergobaby price it’s an easy yes for moms who aren’t sure how much they’ll use a carrier or want a backup option. I personally preferred the Ergobaby, but this one is great on a budget! Check price on Amazon

Pro tip: Many moms end up with both — the MomCozy for quick around the house use and the Ergobaby for longer outings where back support really matters.

On the Go

RUVALINO Diaper Bag Backpack — The One I Actually Use I’ll be real with you — I couldn’t justify spending $150-200 on a diaper bag when there were so many other things to buy. So I did my research and landed on the RUVALINO and I’m genuinely so glad I didn’t spend more.

This bag has held up incredibly well and has everything you actually need — multiple pockets, insulated bottle holders, a built in changing pad, a pacifier case, and my personal favorite detail — a dedicated wipe holder. Anyone who has dug through an entire diaper bag looking for wipes with one hand while holding a baby with the other knows exactly why that matters.

It’s large enough to fit everything without being so bulky you dread carrying it, the waterproof material wipes clean easily, and the backpack style keeps your hands free. I’ve used mine constantly and it still looks great.

Save your money on the designer diaper bag — nobody is looking at your bag, they’re looking at your baby. This one does everything the expensive ones do at a fraction of the price. Check price on Amazon

Muslin Swaddle Blankets — And Why You Don’t Need Burp Cloths The most versatile baby item you’ll own — and the one that made me completely rethink my registry.

Here’s my honest take on burp cloths: I bought so many and they were basically useless. No matter where I positioned that thing the spit up always found a way around it. They’re too small, they slip, and they cover almost no ground. I would not add a single burp cloth to a registry if I did it again.

These muslin blankets on the other hand? They cover everything. Drape one over your entire shoulder and you’re actually protected. Use them as swaddles, nursing covers, stroller covers, tummy time mats, impromptu shade covers, and yes — the world’s best burp cloth. They’re lightweight, wash beautifully, and get softer with every wash.

Buy a set (or multiple) of 4-6 and you’ll reach for them constantly for years. Skip the burp cloths entirely and just get more of these. Check price on Amazon

Mom Must-Haves

Postpartum Belly Wrap Your core needs support after birth whether you deliver vaginally or via c-section. A belly wrap provides gentle compression that helps with recovery, supports your back during those endless baby-holding hours, and helps everything feel a little more held together — literally and figuratively. Check price on Amazon

Earth Mama Nipple Butter If you’re breastfeeding this is non-negotiable. Lanolin-free, organic, and safe for baby — no need to wipe off before nursing. Apply after every feed in the early weeks. Your future self will thank you. Check price on Amazon

Comfortable Nursing Bras (3-Pack) You will live in these. Get a 3-pack so you always have a clean one. Look for wireless, soft cup styles with easy one-hand clips. Comfort over everything in those early weeks. Check price on Amazon One extra thing to note about nursing bras: they won’t work with most pumps (except portable ones). Once you select your pump, you will want to search for pumping bras specifically designed for that pump.

Silverette Silver Nursing Cups — Sounds Ridiculous, Absolute Lifesaver I know. I know what you’re thinking. Little silver cups for your nipples? That seems completely unnecessary and probably just a gimmick. I thought the exact same thing. I was wrong.

I genuinely cannot explain what magic is in these things but they work. Pure 925 silver has natural healing and antibacterial properties and somehow wearing these between nursing sessions makes a dramatic difference — especially in those brutal first few weeks when breastfeeding is still new and your body is adjusting.

The days I chose not to wear them — particularly in the beginning — I could absolutely tell the difference. There was just no comparison. They’re lightweight, they sit comfortably inside your nursing bra, and you don’t have to do anything except wear them.

Are they an investment for what is essentially a tiny piece of silver? Yes. Are they worth every single penny if you’re planning to breastfeed? Also yes. Add them to your registry and let someone else buy them for you — and then actually use them. Check price on Amazon

The Extras Worth Having

Baby Nail File Electric Trimmer Cutting a newborn’s nails with scissors is terrifying. This electric file gently buffs them down safely while baby sleeps. Game changer for nervous new parents. Check price on Amazon

Portable Baby Lounger For the baby who wants to be near you at all times. A portable lounger lets baby rest safely next to you on the couch, on the floor, or anywhere you need your hands free for five minutes. Light enough to carry room to room. I liked this one because it isn’t as expensive as many popular name brands but does the same thing. Check price on Amazon

Baby Monitor with Camera — WiFi vs Dedicated Monitor A dedicated video monitor lets you check on baby without your phone — and that distinction matters more than you’d think. No notifications popping up, no distractions, no accidentally doom scrolling at 2am when you just meant to check the baby. Just a clear, simple view of the crib exactly when you need it.

There are two camps on baby monitors and honestly both are great — it really comes down to your lifestyle and personal preference.

If you want WiFi and phone connectivity — get the Nanit. The Nanit Pro is the gold standard of WiFi baby monitors. It streams directly to your phone from anywhere in the world, tracks baby’s breathing motion, gives you sleep insights and analytics, and the camera quality is exceptional. If you travel frequently for work, have a partner who travels, or just love having everything on your phone the Nanit is worth every penny. It’s the most recommended WiFi monitor in virtually every mom group for good reason. Check price on Amazon

If you prefer a dedicated standalone monitor — this is my personal pick. Personally I’m in the dedicated monitor camp and I don’t see myself switching. Mine is portable, travel friendly, and works anywhere without needing to think about WiFi connections, app updates, or keeping my phone charged and nearby. I pick it up, I see my baby, I put it down. Simple.

For middle of the night checks and travel especially the simplicity of a standalone monitor is genuinely underrated. No tech headaches, no connectivity issues, just peace of mind in a device that does one thing really well.

Look for one with night vision, two-way audio, and temperature display as your baseline must-haves. Check price on Amazon
